Local Artists

ARTIST’s "in residence"

Lucinda Eubanks

Watercolor & Oil Paintings

Some artists travel great distances to find inspiration for their art. Lucinda has always had a view from which to paint. She has lived on all three of the U.S. Virgin Islands, in the Napa Valley, and now in Sausalito.

Thirty years ago, her career began with painting the narrow streets of St. Croix. Since then, Lucinda has owned two galleries, served as resident artist for Robert Mondavi Winery, Caneel Bay, St. John and The Ritz-Carlton, St. Thomas.

Lucinda's art has been featured in many publications, wine labels, and on television shows. She also teaches art and is the artist in residence at Cavallo Point.

Shiva Jafarzadeh

Ink and Watercolors

Shiva was born in Tehran and lived through 8 years of the Iran/Iraq war as a child. She eventually escaped Iran and made it to America through Syria in 1998. She started drawing when she was 6 years old – in bomb shelters with her sisters – while her father was serving in the Iranian Air Force.

Shiva is a full time mom, an author and illustrator of children books, and a local real estate broker. Her passion for art and helping children overcome trauma through art led her to who she is today. Her art is narrative, personal, passionate, poetic and romantic. She believes that art is a form of love and a sustenance in life.

Randall Stauss

We are proud to be showcasing the work of local artist...Randall Stauss during July 2024

His paintings in oil and watercolor have captured Lake Tahoe and the west coast for over forty years. A third generation Oregonian, Stauss studied at the Portland Art Museum School, Oregon State University and the University of Oregon. In 1985 he was accepted as a signature member of the National Watercolor Society, the same year that he began teaching his popular plein air workshops.

“ I am both a studio and plein air painter. But truth be told, it is plein air that is the crown jewel. Seemingly endless benefits befall the outdoor artist, not the least of which is an expanded sense of presence at the place one has so carefully and intuitively chosen.”

Judith Williams

We are proud to be a part of Marin Open Studios the next two weekends (May 4-5 & May 11-12) and showcasing the work of local artist Judith Williams.

Judith studied art at San Francisco City College, California College of the Arts, and Sonoma State University where she received a BFA in painting. Her work has been shown extensively throughout the country.

Judith loves to draw faces and figures from her imagination, often including them in her journals using pen & ink. Greatly influenced by the Surrealists, Symbolists, and Austrian and German Expressionists of the past, she plays with color, line, and form, using patterns and repetition. Her favorite intention is drawing attention to obsessions, which she does so playfully with many of her figurative canvases. Painting with encaustic for its beautiful translucency and transparency, she can reveal and conceal images and text. Her work will be on our gallery wall through the end of June.

Muriel Ullman

Watercolors

Her work will be showcased on our gallery wall through April.

Loose 'n Lovely

Muriel Schmalberg Ullman painted this group of watercolors, small, square, loose + free, at various kitchen tables and porches. Only a vineyard-scape was done, easel and all in rural southwest France, several summers ago, where the family has a summer place near a small village. The artist is a long time resident of Sausalito. She finds beauty and inspiration in her surroundings.

Gina Amador Oil Paintings "Home & Abroad"

Her work will be showcased on our gallery wall through January

Gina has a BA in Graphic Design and Packaging from the Art Center College of Design in Pasadena. She has also taken art courses at Parsons in Paris and the International School of Painting, Drawing and Sculpture in Todi, Italy. For 31 years she was an award-winning creative director/product developer at The Republic of Tea.

She has always searched for ways to be present and to slow down time. Plein air painting gives her the ability to be truly present – to capture a moment in time and interpret it in her own way. Most or all of her paintings are created on site, before light and shadows change, with details done later in her tudio. Her painting travels have taken her to vineyards in Italy, olive orchards in Spain and lavender fields in Provence.

She finds her home base in Marin County equally inspiring , with dramatic oaks, golden hills and ever-changing bay weather.

We are delighted to introduce the work of Sausalito artist and photographer Russ Eddy whose work will be showcased through August.

Marin nature artist and photographer, Russ Eddy, is best known for creating large, life- like images of trees. His work is reminiscent of Audubon drawings, bringing the viewer into the very forests and meadows where the trees stand – bridging the gap between the stark reality of a gallery and the natural landscapes described through his lens. Russ is schooled in art history & landscape photography.

His work will be showcased on our gallery wall through August. Join us for an opening reception for his show on Wednesday, July 12th, 6pm.

Elizabeth Needham

Elizabeth Needham, an accomplished portrait photographer, has captured evocative black & white portraits of the Marin Humane Pen Pals program which is a tribute to rehabilitation and the healing power of animals. The Pen Pals program takes dogs from the shelter who need extra care and training to live with specially selected inmates at San Quentin prison where the canines are readied for adoption. It is a win-win program for all involved.

We are also featuring her portraits of shelter dogs that were up for adoption. Proceeds from the sale of her portraits go to Marin Humane. The photos will be on display at our shop through mid-April. Kay Carlson

In our ongoing attempt to showcase local artists, we are delighted to now have the work of Kay Carlson on our gallery wall.

Kay is a California plein air colorist in the impressionist tradition, creating an experience of visual drama when light transforms color. Her oil paintings are inspired by the Bay Area, northern California landscape, the Sausalito waterfront, and the Napa-Sonoma wine country as well as her travels.

Lucinda Eubanks

Some artists travel great distances to find inspiration for their art. Lucinda has always had a view from which to paint. She has lived on all three of the U.S. Virgin Islands, in the Napa Valley, CA, and now in Sausalito, CA.

“I have been fortunate to have lived amidst so many beautiful subjects that I could paint in either watercolor or oil. The vistas from above Sausalito looking out towards San Francisco Bay, the endless rows of vines in Napa Valley, or the turquoise waters of the Caribbean—  in places like these inspiring views are unlimited.”

Thirty years ago, her career began with painting the narrow streets of St. Croix, and showcasing her work in a local gallery. Since, Lucinda has owned two galleries, served as resident artist for Robert Mondavi Winery, Caneel Bay, St. John and The Ritz-Carlton, St. Thomas (where most rooms displayed her work) and was commissioned to paint some of the artwork displayed at Peter Island Resort. Her art has also been featured in many publications, wine labels, and on The Today Show, and Law and Order.

Lucina Eubanks

In 1997 she added another aspect to her career: art teacher. Lucinda began offering watercolor classes to those staying at Caneel Bay and The Ritz-Carlton tutoring everyone from 5 years old to 97 years old. So many of her students thought they could never paint.  Lucinda thrives on introducing people to their inner artist by taking the fear out of painting and making it fun.
